NEW ARRIVAL
18th June 2023
GLENGEEVER 2nd AT HEXHAM
GLENGEEVER 2nd yesterday at Hexham under Ben Jones. Another good run from Glen who was unlucky not to hang on for the win only being collared in the last hundred yards by the odds on favourite. Hexham is a unique track with hedges instead of conventional wings and unfortunately he did not really take to these which resulted in him backing off his fences and lacking his usual fluency with his jumping which ultimately lost him the race in the end. He is a bit of a thinker and the hedges got him thinking ( typical Scorpion trait.) Had he jumped slicker early on in the race he would have been able to get further clear of the eventual winner and may not have been caught. Certainly no shame in the defeat though it was a close finish against what looks a nice progressive type. We are all delighted with the horse he has been extremely consistent and fun with 2 - wins, 5 - 2nds and 1 - 3rd from ten starts over jumps for us and is the sort of horse most owners dream of. Congratulations to connections and I'm sure there will be plenty more good days to look forward to with him

SPRING UPDATE
With the warmer weather hopefully on the way, we have been busy deep cleaning our stables, whilst the horses enjoy some time out in the paddocks. We will have a team of horses continung to run throughout the summer, and also some new arrivals to look forward to. We will also soon be advertising some shares in a syndicate for a nice juvenile hurdle prospect who we aim to run in June, a fun summer horse to get involved with for those keen to enjoy some good days out racing in the sun!

AUTISM AWARENESS DAY
Today is Autism Awareness day, and it is great to see Autism in Racing working to help make the horse racing industry inclusive to those on the autism spectrum. A fantastic initiative and one we are keen to support, as our very own Aidan (4) was diagnosed as autistic last year. #autismawarenessday #horseracing

BEN LUND RACING CLUB
We now have an exciting opportunity for new members to join our racing club for the 22/23 season! We have horses with proven form ready to run over a 12 month period, and due to demand we have decided to open up membership this year to more members. Our aim is still to keep the racing club small to allow members more opportunities to go racing regularly. We are a sociable, enthusiastic group with a passion for racing and a real love of the horses involved. Members will benefit from a private whatsapp group regularly updated with photos and videos of the club horses, yard visits to meet the horses, staff and jockeys, plenty of opportunities to go racing at racecourses all over the country and all the perks of being an owner on raceday - a must for any racing enthusiast! For more information please visit our Ben Lund Racing Club page on the website.

GLENGEEVER 2ND AT STRATFORD
GLENGEEVER 2nd at Stratford ridden by Rex Dingle today. That's a third and three seconds in his last four runs from this ultra consistent young horse. He has done us all proud again today and looks to have a bright future infront of him especially when he goes chasing in the winter. What he is doing now is just a bonus and we are enjoying every minute of it. He just keeps bumping into a good one at the moment but he is a winner waiting to happen and he will definitely deserve it when he does get his head in front.

GLENGEEVER
GLENGEEVER 2nd today at Ffos Las ridden by Rex Dingle. He ran a nice race leading up to three out where he made a bad mistake and did well not to fall. This caused him to lose ground but he managed to battle back for 2nd although he had no chance of catching the winner who looks a nice horse. Very happy with him and there is definitely lots to look forward to with him moving forward!

DARK HEATHER
DARK HEATHER ran yesterday evening at Exeter and was ridden by Ben Poste. This was her first time at 3 miles and she ran a nice race seeing the trip out well, staying on in the closing stages to come a good 6th of 18 runners under a lovely patient ride by Ben. It was great to see her take another step forward and she is proving to be a real tough and genuine little mare.

RACING UPDATES
Its been a busy couple of months here, with several of our horses running at various meetings accross the country.
Its nice to see some of our younger horses making good progress as they gain valuable experience on the racecourse. One of these horses is DARK HEATHER, who has been running well in big fields and taken steps forward with each race . It looks like it will only be a matter of time before she finishes in the frame.
A young horse who looks to have a bright future ahead of him is GLENGEEVER (pictured) who in the last month has come a good 3rd at Exeter followed by a nice 2nd in a hot maiden hurdle at Fontwell.
PONTRESINA having his first start after a winter break ran a solid race to come a good 3rd carrying top weight in a competitive chase at Ludlow. He is proving to be very consistent and a great horse to have in our racing club.
We have also had 4ths from LEXINGTON BULLET, KIND WITNESS and JACK THE FARMER.
It looks to be another busy month ahead for the yard, with more runners including a couple of debutants. There will also be trips to Doncaster sales, including the Breeze up sales in April and Horses in training sale in May.

RECENT RUNNERS
A busy few days with runners, FLOW WITH EVE was having the final race of her career before retirement and ran a nice race in conditions that didnt suit her, being a good ground horse, however she battled on to the line to finish a good 5th and ran a respectable race. She will now enjoy her retirement as a broodmare.
DARK HEATHER had her first run for us having previously pulled up in her last run over hurdles in Ireland. She is still very green and has a lot to learn so is still very much a work in progress, she pulled too hard early on and was always doing a bit too much so weakened in the closing stages before being pulled up. It was very much a fact finding mission, she jumped very well and we learnt a lot more about her which we can use moving forward and hopefully see an improvement next time.
PEGGYCLARE made the long trip to Fakenham where she made her debut over fences, she enjoyed being out in front, jumped like a stag and travelled strongly. The distance proved too far for her and when it was clear she was beginning to weaken, Ben Godfrey looked after her and let her come home in her own time to finish 4th. She will learn a lot from the experience and there are plenty of positives to take from the run. It was clear from this run she does not stay so she will be dropped down to 2 miles on soft ground and stick with front running tactics where she can hopefully get her own way out in front and see the race out over a shorter distance.
JACK THE FARMER was another horse having his first run for us. His previous form was very poor before joining us, having finished tailed off and pulled up in 3 bumper runs. He started the race as 150-1 rank outsider however defied those odds, leading the majority of the race until just being caught in the closing stages to finish a very respectable 5th, only 5 1/4 lengths behind the winner. Fantastic to see such improvement in the horse, which is great for his owners and it was nice to get a good positive result with him for us to build on.

YARD NEWS UPDATE
PONTRESINA ran a blinder at Cheltenham on Saturday and did us all proud. Ran the perfect race under a perfect ride until a desperately unlucky moment when unseating Tommy after the last. So close to an amazing day at the biggest stage of all but sadly luck was not on our side today. Thankfully both horse and jockey are ok which is the main thing. The horse is an absolute legend though and it looks like there should be plenty to look forward to moving forward. Great to have a runner at this meeting for The Ben Lund Racing Club and nice to see such a good turn out. The highs and lows of racing! Onwards and upwards we are very proud of this horse. He has been put up 5lb by the handicapper for his performance at Cheltenham so now has an official rating of 130. His new rating reflects the progression he has made since joining our yard and its a compliment to how well he has performed both at Kempton and then Cheltenham only 5 days later. He is a good ground horse and wouldnt want soft ground so will now enjoy a winter break before being aimed at a spring campaign which will likely follow a similar path to the one he has just taken starting with a prep run over hurdles before going back chasing. His main target for the season will be the 3m 1f Betway Handicap Chase at Aintree on Grand National day which will be an exciting day out for the Ben Lund Racing Club.
We have several horses on the yard who we are starting to make plans for regarding entries, and these will begin to make their appearances on the racecourse throughout December and into the New Year, as our season kicks off into the winter.
Lots to look forward to here, make sure to follow our social media pages to stay up to date with runners and results, as well as behind the scenes photos and videos of our team at work.
Thank you for your support

PONTRESINA enjoyed a morning away at the beach today. A nice freshen up in between runs, a change of scenery and a splash in the sea - safe to say this lad had a great time!!

PONTRESINA 2ND AT KEMPTON PARK
Ben Lund Racing Club horse PONTRESINA ran a great race today coming 2nd in a competitive novice hurdle at Kempton under a lovely ride from Ben Godfrey. It was his first run after a year off the track so we are delighted to see him run so well after a long lay off. Another good result for our racing club, well done to all connections and the team at home!

AUTUMN YARD UPDATE
Although we have not had many runners yet due to most of our horses needing softer ground, its been a busy time at the yard. The National Hunt runners we have had so far have mostly performed very well and shown plenty of promise, giving us a good foundation to build on and lots to look forward to. It was nice to get a winner on the board early with FLOW WITH EVE at Worcester and a good second at Newton Abbot with KIND WITNESS. BLUE HEATHER who has had various injury-related issues ran a nice race after a long time off the track to come fourth at Ffos Las and if not for a bad mistake three out looked like she may well have finished third. She is sure to come on a lot for the run and looks a nice prospect if we can keep her sound. We have had a few horses come to us after having a lot of time off due to injuries. Its always an achievement getting them race fit without any problems, running them and getting them home safe, and does nothing for the nerves of our yard team, who work tirelessly behind the scenes ensuring their work routines are followed accurately and effectively, with constant monitoring throughout. Thankfully horses such as BLUE HEATHER and PEGGYCLARE, who have both had tendon problems, have come out of their races well, and getting them home sound after their first run back from a lay off is a huge relief. Regardless of the result, our main priority is our horses welfare and this will always continue to be the most important factor for us when working with and training racehorses.
Over the past few months our stables have gradually been filling up and we now have lots of new heads over the doors which is great to see and very exciting for the yard. Now the rain is starting to come we are looking forward to an increase in runners and its looking like a busy season ahead with a nice team of horses, along with recent new arrivals and more to follow, ready to become a part of our team here at Ben Lund Racing.
Its not only new horses that have joined us recently. With the increased numbers, this has also meant we have expanded our team of staff, and we have been joined by two new full time members, Anna and Tehya. We are also very lucky to have some fantastic work riders / jockeys and we may also be looking to take on another soon.
We have been very grateful for all of the support we have received over the past few months and its great to be able to share regular updates with our followers.
Thank you from all the team at Ben Lund Racing.

BEN LUND RACING CLUB
Due to the unusually dry autumn, its been a quieter period for our racing club horses. We have been running bonus horses for the racing club to ensure our members have been given the opportunities to go racing throughout the year, however now we are entering the winter months ground conditions should become more suitable for the original club horses, and we are expecting a busy winter campaign with KIND WITNESS and PONTRESINA.

FLOW WITH EVE WINS at Worcester
A fantastic achievement to get a win with this mare at the age of 12, after 500 days off the track and with her first run for Ben Lund Racing. She had previously never won a race and this was a great day for all involved. She was given a very good ride by Tommy Eyston, who is one of our work riders and had got to know the mare well at home. This was a special day for the owners as they bred the mare and after having her in training for many years, never gave up in the hope she would one day get them a winning result. Just goes to show that to get success you dont always need a big price tag!

KIND WITNESS 2nd at Newton Abbot
First runner for our Ben Lund Racing Club! Great to get the club going with a nice positive result, this is a very tough, genuine little mare and she looks sure to provide plenty of fun over the course of the season! She was given a great ride by Ben Godfrey who has struck up a good partnership with her.
